If you plan on living in your home while it’s on the market, then prepare yourself for the constant effort of tidying up.
You may have heard from me by now about how important the first two weeks of a listing really are, but just in case, I’ll say it again.
The first two weeks are the time in which you want to capture as many eyes as possible, draw in showings, and hopefully field some offers. Keeping your home tidy along the way will only increase the chances of those things happening.
I get it. It’s going to be tough. But your home doesn’t need to look like a curated museum as you tidy up for showings. Consider the following:
Clear the Counters
Kitchens are huge selling points in a home. Aside from the condition of the kitchen itself – whether it requires updates or is recently renovated – you’ll want to make it your goal to show off every inch of counter space to every single potential buyer as they waltz through your home.
Ditch the big appliances or stow them away in a cabinet or garage, and be sure to give a quick cleaning or vacuum to the tops as well to remove any crumbs or stains.
Even for that first weekend of showings, you may want to consider wiping down the cabinets as well with Clorox wipes to give it that extra clean, shiny look.
