An Uber/Lyft driver who has made it his personal mission to find the best cheesesteak during breaks in between rides has determined the best one isn’t in Philly, but instead in New Jersey.
Meatheadz Cheesesteaks in Lawrence Township gets Jim Pappas’ vote as the best of the best, after a steady diet of cheesesteaks had him eating 295 of them just this year alone. If that’s not a large enough test case for his decision, then I don’t know what is.
The best part is, as a Delaware resident, Philly Fanatics can’t even pretend the guy is playing the NJ hometown card. This cheesesteak connoisseur has driven from Wilmington, Delaware to Lawrence Township for a cheesesteak, a distance of roughly 75 miles. I mean, he has to drive past Philadelphia to get to what he considers to be the best of the best.
Up until this article, I’ll admit I didn’t realize NJ vs. Philly for cheesesteak supremacy was really a thing. I mean, we have the pork roll/Taylor Ham market cornered and arguably some of the best pizza and bagels in the country. But naturally, the Everyone vs. Philly debate rages on. Take, for example, the subtle naming convention of this NJ restaurant: Better Than Philly Cheesesteaks.
